Common emergencies

  • Generally we faces respiratory obstruction during eating or while playing.
  • It may be bulk of food or some hard thing obstruct the trachea.

Identification/symptoms

We can see that person is uncomfortable with bluish discoloration and

  • Sudden hypoxia
  • Difficulty in breathing
  • Shortness of breathing
  • Craving for oxygen

Assessment

  • Bluish discoloration
  • Difficulty in breathing
  • Unstable position

See for pulse,heart rate and try to evaluate what has obstructed the patient.

Patient care

Now if you are sure about that person has swallowed something than follow the procedure.

  • Call emergency
  • Hold the patient from back covering two arms around the chest so that your both hands lie near midline and lower level of chest
  • Compress your arm forcefully towards you four to five times
  • Patient will vomit the thing making him in the position
  • Ensure patient is well

Prevention

Important thing is how to prevent such a condition

  • Avoid speaking during eating
  • Avoid hurry up chewing, chew properly
  • Keep away children from small hard thing,otherwise they will try to eat them
